Why We Give: The Mental Health Organizations Behind Weathered Sailor
Weathered Sailor was built on a simple belief: what you wear can carry meaning. Every hoodie, every tee, every hat we make is connected to something bigger than the garment itself — a commitment to mental health that shows up in the most direct way we know how. We give.
A portion of every purchase goes to three organizations doing the kind of work that genuinely changes lives. Here's who they are and why we chose them.
To Write Love On Her Arms
TWLOHA was one of the first organizations we committed to when building this brand. Founded in 2006, they exist to present hope and find help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. What sets them apart is their voice — they speak directly to the people who are suffering, not just about them. Their content, campaigns, and community have reached millions of people who needed to hear that they are not alone.
We chose TWLOHA because they meet people exactly where they are. No clinical distance. No judgment. Just humanity.

Active Minds
Active Minds is changing the conversation about mental health on college campuses and beyond. They run student-led chapters at hundreds of universities, training young people to be mental health advocates in their own communities. They focus on the 18–25 age range — the demographic where mental health challenges most often go unaddressed and untreated.
We chose Active Minds because prevention and awareness at that age can alter the entire trajectory of someone's life. The work they do in schools is the kind of upstream intervention that creates lasting change.

NAMI — National Alliance on Mental Illness
NAMI is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the United States. They provide education, advocacy, and support for the tens of millions of Americans affected by mental illness — including family members and caregivers who often carry a weight that goes unseen. Their helpline, support groups, and educational programs are free and available to anyone who needs them.
We chose NAMI because of their reach and their breadth. They serve people at every stage — from first diagnosis to long-term recovery — and they advocate at the policy level for systemic change.

Why Three Organizations
We made a deliberate choice to split our giving across three organizations rather than one. Each one serves a different part of the mental health landscape — crisis and hope, prevention and education, long-term support and advocacy. Together they cover more ground. When you buy from Weathered Sailor, all three benefit.
This isn't a marketing angle. It's the reason the brand exists. Mental wellness is woven into everything we make — from the name itself to the people we give to. We're weathered. We sail on. And we bring people with us.
Shop Weathered Sailor and be part of it.
